GERHARDT BRAUN GALLERY ART PALACE - Calle Sant Feliu 10, 07012 Palma de Mallorca
Last call” is a collective exhibition made up of eight national and international acclaimed artists. These are Thierry Feuz, Chus Garcia Fraile, Oliver Johnson, Jorge Mayet, Francesca Martí, PSJM, Rosali Schweizer and Ronald A. Westerhuis.
These eight artists have joined this project under the watchful eye of Gerhardt Braun to claim through art, the repeated “Last call” for the salvation of our planet. The numbers are alarming, the countdown has started and the human race seems not to be unmoved. Society prefers to treat this irrevocable reality as if it was a “trending topic” and what we really need is a profound change in society to save our planet.
Contemporary art must be nourished by this reality and recover forcefully what has always been the raison d’être of art, energizers of the social environment as agents of change.
“Last call” wants to build up, inform, disseminate and raise awareness. To propose a space for reflection, to enhance changes through the work of these artists who share a common goal; contribute to a social transformation.
Repeat with us, please , “last call , last call , last call ...” as a mantra for the preservation of nature and change. Gerhardt Braun has curated this exhibition with the aim of raising awareness of the viewer in its relationship with nature and bring about positive change.
Quoting Alejandro Jodorowsky : “no individual can change the world but we could start the change taking the first step “. So how can we take the first step ? The answer comes from within us : “ It’s only with the heart that one can see rightly , what is most important is invisible to the eye “. Antoine De Saint Exhupéry’s frase leads us to open our hearts and capture the energy that is in the Universe. Nature and art are and the universe. If we get their energy, we’ll emit it.
This energy is captured in different ways in the work of the eight artists selected by Gerhardt Braun for this exhibition:
PSJM, the cold, statistical look on climate change and the preservation of nature. Oliver Johnson, spiritual and symbolic abstraction related to the experience of the landscape and the contemplation of nature. Rosali Schweizer ,moving sculptures in overlapping motion , they rotate and reflect , any atmospheric change conditions them. Chus García, who defends nature in its purest form must be protected from human intervention . Thierry Feuz , the classic conception of nature as a beautiful and picturesque explosion from an artificial perspective.Jorge Mayet ,by living like a tree uprooted, makes him value every part of the Earth, because it’s here where we’re able to survive. Francesca Martí, artificial and urban landscape that is built of cement and people. Invasion and occupation of urban centres. Ronald A Westerhuis ,energetic sculptures that emanate energy and strength wherever they are.
“Last call” is positive energy inside and outside the show, inside and outside the viewer.
“Last call” is a small seed that can create a tree. Returning to Alejandro Jodorowsky, the smallest of my positive acts can have enormous repercussions for humanity.
Last call...
