Gerhardt Braun Gallery is thrilled to present a stunning collection of tapestries featuring the designs of renowned artist Esther Mahlangu, a prominent figure in the African art world known for her contributions to Ndebele art, a distinctive style of mural painting originating in South Africa. Enjoying their first gallery show in Mallorca, these beautiful handwoven tapestries result from an exciting collaborative initiative between Esther Mahlangu and Alexandra de Cadaval Art Projects. This aesthetic expression, passed down and perpetuated by women for generations, finds its origin in the distinctive patterns of the Ndebele ethnic group's clothing and jewelry. Using brushes made from chicken feathers and vivid acrylic paints, Ndebele artists reflect their group's rich cultural heritage and distinctive identity in their works. Originally, Ndebele mural painting was used to decorate homes during rites of passage into adulthood. Mahlangu's work has achieved international recognition and has been exhibited in galleries and museums worldwide.
