Chus García-Fraile will inaugurate the exhibition "Mythologies everyday" at Gerhardt Braun Gallery on May 3rd 2019. This exhibition will be composed of 34 pieces; Painting, photography and sculpture.
Chus García-Fraile is an artist that from the very beginning has felt very comfortable jumping between drawing and painting, photography and video, sculpture and installation or even returning to a more basic but no less fascinating artistic practice, like charcoal drawing.
This interdisciplinary focus that characterizes her artistic practice has always been dependent on a conceptual discourse that could be summarized around the following pairings: the intimate versus the public, the natural versus the constructed, the mythological versus the quotidian, that is, nature versus culture.
Departing from landscape, Chus García-Fraile has shifted from the countryside to the city, from natural landscape to urban landscape, and with it towards the analysis of pop culture and a critique of the ideology of the actual social and cultural conditions of human beings through the objects they produce, consume and that bestow them with personality and identity.
With exquisite irony and a very delicate finish, the artist deconstructs the halo that impregnates mass culture and that imposes upon the artificial reality of social relations, to the point that we as spectators experience a false positivism contained in the codes, symbols and discourses of those artifacts.
